The Evolution of Laptop Computers

Everywhere you look today there seems to be someone with a laptop computer. It makes you wonder how everyone survived without a laptop. In the 1970′s the personal desktop computer made its entrance, and everyone wanted one. Tandy, Hewlett-Packard, and Radio Shack were producing portable computers during this time and were the most recognized names. The laptop computer first came onto the market in the early 1980′s.  They were using the flip form factor.

When we look back in time to those first personal desktop computers and the first laptops, they seem like dinosaurs to us now. Everyone seems to be using the laptop to email family and friends instead of sitting down and writing an actual letter. If someone were to receive a letter in the mail, they would be shocked because most people use email today. Laptop computers are also portable and easy to transport. With their small size, they can slip easily into a backpack or large purse.

In college, some students take notes on their laptops because they find it easier to type notes instead of writing them down. If a student has a report to do, they do not have to go to the library and do research using reference books. Most businesses could not conduct their operations without their desktop computers and the employees could not be without their laptop computer, as it allows them the ability to work at home if needed or desired. Employees can even log into their work desktops from their laptops if they need information.

It seems as if the world revolves around the portable laptop computer. Everything is done on the laptop today. There is even Wi-Fi in restaurants, hotels, and many other places so that people can use their laptop and hookup to an internet connection. This makes it very convenient to be able to do your work while you are eating or on a business/personal trip.
